The Unpardonable Unforgivable Sin – What Is It To Blaspheme The Holy Spirit?
May 17, 2009 by A Watchman
Many people will tell you that it is impossible for you to blaspheme the Holy Spirit.
Don’t believe them.
The Pharisees had blasphemed the Holy Spirit… That’s why YAHU’SHUA rebuked them for it!
And you can blaspheme the Holy Spirit too…
Do Not Be Deceived!
Matthew 12
18Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
19He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.
20A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.
21And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
22Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
28But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
29Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
30He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
31Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
‘Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.’
The Pharisees had blasphemed the Holy Ghost
The unpardonable sin.
And the Lord had told them it shall not be forgiven them, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
Those who professed to be proclaiming the will of God had just been openly condemned to eternal damnation. And told that there is no forgiveness for them – ever.
What had they done? How had these so called (self proclaimed) righteous men committed a sin so grave that it would never be forgiven them?
The scripture tells us ‘But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.’
They had declared the works of the Holy Spirit to be orchestrated by the devil.
Bang!
That’s it.
Game over.
The door to forgiveness had permanently shut.
Matthew 12
33″Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.
34″You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.
35″The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil.
36″But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.
37″For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
But there is another side to this coin with regard to blaspheming the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 7
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
These come to our Lord on the great and terrible day of judgement and profess to Him ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
These too have (in an indirect way) blasphemed the Holy Ghost.
And the Lord has professed unto them that their sin will never be forgiven them either.
How have these blasphemed the Holy Ghost?
Those who claim to be led by the Holy Spirit yet practice lawlessness and live in iniquity are blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Those who perform lying signs and wonders while professing to be led by the Holy Spirit blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Those who prophesy falsely blaspheme the Holy Spirit.
The word ‘blasphemy’ in our opening verse (according to Strongs Exhaustive concordance) means:
1) slander, detraction, speech injurious, to another’s good name
2) impious and reproachful speech injurious to divine majesty
While prophesying in His name, and casting out devils in his name, and doing many wonderful works in His name, they have slandered and lived a lifestyle that is injurious to His Good Name. They have blasphemed the Good Name of the Holy Spirit by doing these works while, at the same time, they worked iniquity.
The Greek word used here for the term ‘iniquity’ is anomia and means:
1) the condition of without law
a) because ignorant of it
b) because of violating it
2) contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness
Rejecting Gods Law and teaching others to do so while professing to be led by the Holy Spirit is blaspheming the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit would NEVER lead you into lawlessness and iniquity. There are those who claim otherwise and their speech is speech injurious to divine majesty.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
It pains me greatly when I see that word ‘many’ in regard to those who consider themselves Christians being turned away by our Lord.
Do Not Be Deceived…
Just as our birth into this life was through a narrow gate… So it is with our birth into the next life.

Jesus confirmed Torah:
EX 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
DEUT 5:11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold [him] guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
who is this JESUS??? have you really stopped and as yourself who is this person? it is written that the Messiah would come in the name of the Heavenly Fathers name… What is the Heavenly Father;s name? for it is written, I am YHWH….(YAHWEH) who brought you out of the land of Mitzrayim(Egypt) , out of the ;land of bondage… Does the name JESUS look or sound like YHWH? Please give this some thought… YHWH said that He is Holy therefore His Son is Holy and Set Apart , not cmmon but peculiar just like a true believer should be,peculiar.
‘Jesus’ is a poor transliteration of ‘Joshua’ which is a translation of YaHoshua ie ‘YHWH Saves’
Yeshua (non-disrespectful abbreviated form of Ya-Hoshua, as also ‘Ya’ is a non-disrespectful abbreviated form of YHWH) knew that his name would often not be accurate and said that was not unforgiveable. Many people use the name ‘Jesus’ in accidental ignorance of the proper name. Gracious mercy must be practiced. I used to be one of the accidentally ignorant and God was graciously merciful to me while enabling me to slowly learn truth.
I moved house and introduced myself to neighbours as ‘Glenda’. However, I reminded a wonderful dear elderly person of a ‘Ruth’ that neighbour once knew and that name stuck with me from that neighbour and I didn’t and don’t mind, because that neighbour associates ‘Ruth’ with lovely thoughts and I recognise a good heart in the mistake regarding the name. I’m happy to be accidentally called Ruth in goodwill recognising the heart and age and limitations of the lovely person accidentally calling me that name. That dear neighbour sweetly told others about the new person ‘Ruth’ and I was wrongly addressed as such by people who met me through that neighbour. Over time I clarified to those others that my name is Glenda, but accept the alternative name as a term of endearment in special circumstances when my real name is less easy to remember and did not want anyone embarrassed or confused by not using my real name.
Most people know Yeshua/Ya-Hoshua as ‘Jesus’ and usually there is no illwill associated with that name and it was passed on in mistaken ignorance. That should be taken into account when discussing Yeshua lovingly by whatever name people know him as, rather than confusing or embarrassing people by initially using a name they may not associate with the Messiah. Once people know who we are discussing, lovingly correcting the name can sometimes be done if the person can manage to embrace this and not everyone may be able to. God knows hearts and frailties and limitations.
Yeshua called YHWH ‘Heavenly Father’ and that is a wonderful way to address YHWH too and can reduce nervousness about what may or may not be correct pronunciation. We know for sure that the true God may also be referred to as ‘the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob’ … this is the Scriptural God Who saves.
We are not promoting Paul’s ‘UNKNOWN GOD’ who is actually ‘Zeus’ as per Paul’s clarifying quotes from Hymn to Zeus etc.
and this was warned of by YHWH that ‘unknown gods’ are specifically the false gods of other nations!
Deu 13:6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast ****not known****, thou, nor thy fathers;
Deu 13:7 ****Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth*****;
(YHWH allows us to hear of ‘UNKNOWN GOD’ as a test as per Deut 13:3-4)
Let us be careful and caring of others and slow to point the finger regarding people using wrong names. Let us promote loving the KNOWN God of Scripture promoted by Yeshua … or ‘Jesus’ as written in most English translations of the bible, remembering ‘bible’ is not a scriptural word either and neither is ‘canon’ and these concepts may not be easily grasped or embraced by many, yet hearts may be in the right place and we can only discern/judge ‘fruit’ which is ‘behaviour’.
There are other aspects to why Yeshua will reject many who call ‘Lord, Lord’ and one is because they don’t do the will of God the Father. (Matthew 7:21)
The will of God is usually for our own benefit and includes things like Sabbath observance, keeping the Biblical festivals, obeying the Ten Commandments, etc. and not doing these things is lawlessness / practising iniquity.
Another aspect is that anyone prophesying, healing or preaching in the name of Jesus is way off the mark, because his name is not Jesus. So they don’t really KNOW Yeshua for who and what he actually is; and this is why he doesn’t know them either. Truthfully, he says to them ‘I never knew you’. (Compare John 15:18 to 16:4)
In fact, it is fanatical Christians who are going to be killing God’s people, for not bowing their knee to ‘Jesus’ at his second coming and believing they are offering God service.
The essence of the Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24:9, Yeshua says “they will deliver you to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all [the religious] nations because of/ on account of my name”! It is specifically over his name, because the elect Saints will know who and what Yeshua is and they will refuse to bend their knee to the impostor Jesus.
As verse 14 says, ‘And this gospel (sic) of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the [religious] nation, and then the end will come’.
The word ‘gospel’ does not mean good news; in the original Greek according to Vines Expository Dictionary, it means ‘preaching with the connotation of a reward’.
Here is a preaching / lesson / information that the world has never had the ‘eyes to see’ before – of the Final Gospel that heralds the end of the age – and it is a sure sign that we are indeed in End Times!
Mat 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel (G2098) of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
G2098 ‘euaggelion’ = ‘good message’
Vines expository dictionary: ‘noun’: originally denoted a reward for good tidings; later, the idea of reward dropped, and the word stood for “the good news” itself. ****The Eng. word “gospel,” i.e. “good message,” is the equivalent of euangelion (Eng., “evangel”).****
‘verb’: “to bring or announce glad tidings” (Eng., “evangelize”),
(despite the word literally meaning ‘good message’ in Greek, ie. eu- “good”, -angelion/aggelion “message/to announce”, the ancient common/secular usage of the word often promoted a reward for good tidings eg as per Homer’s Odyssey XIV, despite the actual word not involving any reward)
Gospel does indeed literally mean ‘good news’ , despite common usage corrupting that word.
The truthful uncorrupted message of Messiah is that the ones he doesn’t know are the ones who practice lawlessness/lovelessness of God and fellow man.
MT 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Mat 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Mat 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Mat 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Mat 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Mat 7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
Mat 7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
Mat 7:28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
Mat 7:29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Lawfulness is based on love for God and fellow man. The teachings of God through Messiah highlight we are to behave as good Samaritans. There is no point being ‘religious’ in lack of compassion and care for fellow man
Mat 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
Mat 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
Mat 25:33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
Mat 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
Mat 25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
Mat 25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Mat 25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
Mat 25:38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
Mat 25:39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
Mat 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Mat 25:42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
Mat 25:43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
Mat 25:44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
Mat 25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
Mat 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
James puts it well:
JAS 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
Best we heed the words of Messiah and obey those Words of YHVY, whether we call the speaker of YHVH’s Words a Hebrew or Greek or Latin name! Best we bend our knees to the message bringer!!! One translation may call the speaker ‘Jesus’ while another may call him Joshua, while another may call him Yeshua etc. What matters is that we live according to the true Words of God he delivered. To accuse the speaker of being evil is to be in danger of committing the unpardonable sin, while arrogantly assuming to be too wise to do so. The ***actions/fruit*** of Yeshua/Jesus prove this speaker was from God.
Mat 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
Mat 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
Mat 12:26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
Mat 12:27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
Mat 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
Mat 12:29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
Mat 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
Mat 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
Mat 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
Mat 12:33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
The speakers Words and actions were directly from God, so it is not wise to call the speaker an imposter, regardless of translation/transliteration.
We are to be known by LOVE rather than known by terminology. Time to check our own flaws rather than flaws of others. God is our teacher and we must trust Him to show us and others what we should know in His timing according to abilities He gives each differently. No point using correct terms if attitude is harsh and proud and disdaining and judgmental of others, all of which are against God’s commands. Evil spirits know and use correct terminology, but that will not save them from God’s wrath.
LK 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.
No name was mentioned in this verse yet we know who the verse was discussing, regardless of translation.
LK 9:26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.
People should not be ashamed of the Words of God taught by the son of man, even if the name of the son of man isn’t in Hebrew. The actions and teachings are identical whether the translation of the speaker’s name is accurate or not. It is not wise to accuse God of evil anti-christ activity through His chosen agent in the gospels and there is no difference in action or speech whether the translation uses the name Jesus or Yeshua. LK 12:10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
ARNETA & Pearl:
The only teachings that we have of the Messiah in the bible call Him Jesus. Should we throw out the few narrations that we have of his teachings as false because the narrations call Him Jesus…? How did you learn about the Jewish Messiah…? Through the bible or through the Koran? The Bible calls Him Jesus… The Koran calls Him Isa. What name did you first know Him by?? If you learned about Him through the bible then the bible calls Him Jesus.
You call Him Yeshua. I find that offensive. The name of YAH is not in the name Yeshua. The Pharisees called Him Yeshua as a sign of disrespect. When they referred to Him in the talmud they took the name of YAH or YAHU out of the name YAHUSHUA as a sign of disrespect to show that they believed that YAHU was not with Him.
Why do you continue that tradition?
His name is YAHUSHUA (meaning: YAHU IS SALVATION). Why do you call Him ‘YESHUA (YE IS SALVATION)? Where is YAHU in the name YESHUA???
You yourselves are doing the exact thing that You are accusing the Christians of doing.
The name of our Heavenly Father is The Sacred Name.
Exodus 9:16
“But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth”.
Psalm 91:14
“Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name”.
Isaiah 52:6
“Therefore my people will know my name; therefore in that day they will know that it is I who foretold it. Yes, it is I.”
Isaiah 42:8
“YHVH, this is my name: I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to graven things”.
Jeremiah 33:2 “YHVH Who made the earth, Who formed it and set it firm – YHVH is His Name – says this: ‘Call to Me and I will answer you …’”
Isaiah 12:4 “Give thanks to YHVH – call His Name aloud. Proclaim His deeds to the nations, declare His Name sublime. Sing of YHVH, for He has done marvelous things – let it be known to the whole world!”.
Deut 6:4
SHMAA YISRAEL YAH HOVEH ELOHEINU YAH HOVEH ECHAD
HEAR ISRAEL YAH IS OUR GOD YAH IS ONE
YAH… YAH HOVEH… HOVEH meaning “to be”, in the present tense… Hence His name YAHOVEH (or as He would say ‘I AM’). YAHOVEH – I AM.
You are correct;
Isaiah 52:6
“Therefore my people will know my name
Why do you call Him YAHWEH? What does WEH mean in Hebrew? You add the suffix ‘WEH’ onto the name of our Heavenly Father YAH… You must know what it means if the NAME is so sacred to you… What does WEH mean?
While you are explaining that could you please also explain where the name YAH is in the name YESHUA…? Does the name YESHUA look or sound like YAHOVEH?
Please give this some thought…
You seem to stress a lot of importance on knowing the correct names of those we believe in yet you seem to be also condemning yourself with your own accusations.
YAHU’SHUA HA MASHIACH… We are called to be like Him. He fulfilled the LAW… Yet He showed compassion to those who loved Him even though they were slow to understand. We would be more like Him if we were to do the same.
