Is Jesus God?
August 4, 2008 by A Watchman
Is Jesus God? Is His name YHVH? Should we worship the Messiah?
You will note in the following verses that there are to be no other gods besides YHVH and there are to be no images of any type to which one expresses divine adoration.
Exodus 20:3-6 (KJV)
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I YHVH thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Exodus 20:3-6 (JPS)
3 You shall have no other gods besides Me. 4 You shall not make for yourself a sculptured image, or any likeness of what is in the heavens above, or on the earth below, or in the waters under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them. For I YHVH your God am an impassioned God, visiting the guilt of the parents upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generations of those who reject Me, 6 but showing kindness to the thousandth generation of those who love Me and keep My commandments.
Deuteronomy 5:7-10 (KJV)
7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me. 8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: 9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I YHVH thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, 10 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
Deuteronomy 5:7-10 (JPS)
7 You shall have no other gods beside Me. 8 You shall not make for yourself a sculptured image, any likeness of what is in the heavens above, or on the earth below, or in the waters below the earth. 9 You shall not bow down to them or serve them. For I YHVH your God am an impassioned God, visiting the guilt of the parents upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generations of those who reject Me, 10 but showing kindness to the thousandth generation of those who love Me and keep My commandments.
It is the hallmark of pagan, idolatrous faiths, to confuse God with human beings, either that God becomes human, or that humans become God. In Biblical history, one sees this confusion with Pharaoh, as well as with Antiochus, the Assyrian King against whom the Maccabbees rebelled. Furthermore, as one example, in Hosea 11:9 God tell us, “For I am God and not a man.”
According to the above scriptures, there is to be no divine worship of anything other than God (YHVH). We are told not to worship any other God but YHVH yet Christians “worship” the Messiah.
Christians identify Messiah with Jesus and define him as God incarnated as a man, and believe he died for the sins of humanity as a blood sacrifice. This means that one has to accept the idea that one person’s death can atone for another person’s sins. However, this is opposed to what the Bible says in Deuteronomy 24:26, “Every man shall be put to death for his own sin,” which is also expressed in Exodus 32:30-35, and Ezekiel 18. The Christian idea of the messiah also assumes that God wants, and will accept, a human sacrifice. After all, it was either Jesus-the-god who died on the cross, or Jesus-the-human. Jews believe that God cannot die, and so all that Christians are left with in the death of Jesus on the cross, is a human sacrifice. However, in Deuteronomy 12:30-31, God calls human sacrifice an abomination, and something He hates: “for every abomination to the Eternal, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.” All human beings are sons or daughters, and any sacrifice to God of any human being would be something that God would hate. The Christian idea of the messiah consists of ideas that are UnBiblical.
The Jewish idea of God is that God is One and Indivisible. We cannot divide God up into separate parts, where each part of God is UnEqual to each of the other parts, but somehow they are one and the same. The Hebrew Scriptures describes God as an absolute One, but the Christian’s New Testament describes the Christian idea of God as divisible into three parts called a trinity. In the Christian’s New Testament, Jesus at one point claims to have different knowledge than other parts of the Christian Trinity. For example, Matthew 24:36 or Mark 13:32. In another verse, Jesus does not have the same power as other parts of the Christian Trinity, for example, Luke 23:34. And in Matthew 26:42, Jesus’s will is not the same as the will of the Father. Indeed, Jesus often contrasted himself with the Father, for example, in John 14:28, or Luke 18:19. Furthermore, Jesus supposedly said that the punishment for blaspheming against one part of the Trinity is not the same punishment for blaspheming against another part of the Trinity. In the Hebrew Scriptures, however, God is One, as we read in Deuteronomy 6:4, as well as in Isaiah 44:6, where God tells us, “I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.” When Isaiah tells us that God said, “I am the first,” it means that God has no father. When Isaiah tells us that God said, “I am the last,” it means that God has no literal son. And when Isaiah tells us that God said, “Besides me there is no God,” it means that God does not share being God with any other god, or demi-god, or semi-god, or persons, and there is no trinity.

Amen,
I agree with you 100%. There is no such thing as a “trinity” in the bible. I have tried for many years while in college to explain this to people. The main proof is how many publishers have taken out every scripture in the bible that disregards the “holy trinity”. Nothing exist but god, christ constantly reitterated that him and god are one, as if god is in him and he is in god. 1 Tim 3:16 tells us FLAT OUT that god manifested himself in the flesh. But yet this scripture has been erased from most bibles that exist today, the main ones that most people read like the NIV. 1 John also tells us word for word that the holy spirit, the word( jesus christ) and god are one. Once agian, this has been erased from “modern bibles”. The worst thing is that people have no clue that these scriptures exist, that jesus was a manifestation of god ( not litterally god born from mary), and the holy spirit is just another title for gods spirit. Even though these three are spoken of in the new testament each apostle takes time and says these things are ONE, not just on one accord like trinitarians say. By far I feel as if removing sciptures such as these is the biggest scandal in religious history. People were wowed over the Da’Vinci code even though the priory of scion was a hoax, i cant even imagine if someone wrote a book on how god has no counter parts, only numerous titles and forms.
Yeschua ben Yoseph is YHVH…YHVH was written on the superscript on the cross…the initials of “Yeschua Hanotsri Vmelek Hayehudim”…[Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews].
Nati
Nati:
Your quotation above is not quite true. For some reason people find the need to twist things to prove their doctrines and then other christians just take what they say as gospel without even investigating whether it is true or not. There are many ’so-called’ truths out there that just are not true.
In response to your post:
[Quote]Yeschua ben Yoseph is YHVH…YHVH was written on the superscript on the cross…the initials of “Yeschua Hanotsri Vmelek Hayehudim”…[Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews].[/Quote]
The word ‘king’ in hebrew (Aramaic) is ‘melech’… not ‘Vmelek’. Which would make the initials of the inscription on the cross ‘YHMH’ not YHVH.
The name of Nazareth in Hebrew is נָצְרַת [Natzerat]. The Hebrew word for “Christian” is נוֹצְרִי [notzri], and Jesus is often called (based on the assumption that he is the same person spoken of in the Talmud) ישו הנוצרי [Yeshu ha-Notzri] or ישוע הנוצרי [Yeshua ha-Notzri]. ‘Yeshu ha-Notzri’ is how jesus was referred to in the talmud by those who despised Him. If you want to translate ‘Jesus of Nazareth, king of the Jews’ into Hebrew, you should use the authentic Hebrew language and not use tainted talmudic phrases.
The literal Hebrew translation of ‘Jesus of Nazareth, king of the Jews’ would be in Hebrew: ישוע מנצרר מלך היהודים – or – ‘Yeshu’a Minatzerat Melech Hayehudim’ – (initials = YMMH , not YHVH).
To make the initials of the words written on the cross spell YHVH – even if we us the talmudic version ‘Yeshu ha-Notzri’, just doesn’t work.
Total agreement that there is no trinity. Jesus worshipped the One true God of Israel and verified that is the greatest commandment. Jesus and Pharisees called the God of Israel ‘Father’ (Jn 8:41, 54) which does not mean equality with God. Jesus prioritised God’s Will over his own and thus unified himself to God’s purpose to experience ‘oneness’ and desired such unity for others (Jn 17:11, 21-22) … that is unity, rather than equality. Jesus totally rejected and denied equality with God and clearly said that God is greater than Jesus (Jn 14:28). Jesus, and sadly not the Jewish population, attracts and leads Gentiles to the God of Israel and that is fulfillment of prophecy. I wish the Jewish population had attracted us to the true God, so that Jesus did not have to gain our attention by crucifixion (Jn 12:32). Learning of the God of Israel allows us to recognise our sinfulness and repent and that leads to life (Acts 11:18). Jesus shared God’s truth while Paul corrupted the message and led people astray and recognising this fact also fulfills prophecy. JER 16:19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.
Messiah laid down His life for His people. Traditional Festivals involving sacrifice are and were symbolistic of his coming and we observe these symbols / rehearsals, that we may know the true Yahshua from the false Messiah. Yahshua’s first fulfillments were during the spring feasts, the seconds fulfillments will be during the fall feasts.
Those who love Him, Keep His commandments.
Those who have ears, let them hear.

God in hebrew Strongs # 430 Elohim. The im on the end implies plural. Examples; cherubim, seraphim.
Conclusion; One God. Three distinct manifestations thereof.
Hebrew sometimes signifies singular magnitude in plural terms eg
‘el’ is great/strong one, and superlative magnitude of greatness of an impressive el is written as elohiym ie plural terminology despite singular subject.
eg Moses was made to be a majorly great INDIVIDUAL human (not a plurality or a god) and yet the term for this ‘one individual’ human was plural ‘elohim’ (great ones/gods)
Exo 7:1 And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god (H430 elohiym) to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
The one individual golden calf was claimed to be elohim by errant Israelites
Exo 32:4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods (H430 elohiym), O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
The individual false god Dagon also was called elohiym
Jdg 16:23 Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god (H430 elohiym), and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.
“Elohim is a plural form which is often used in Hebrew to denote plentitude of might” (Hertz, The Pentateuch and Haftorahs).
“The form of the word, Elohim, is plural. The Hebrews pluralized nouns to express greatness or majesty” (Flanders, Cresson; Introduction to the Bible).
God created. The Hebrew noun Elohim is plural but the verb is singular, a normal usage in the OT when reference is to the one true God. This use of the plural expresses intensification rather than number and has been called the plural of majesty, or of potentiality. — New International Version Study Bible, Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1985, p. 6.
This word [elohim], which is generally viewed as the plural of eloah [Strong's #433], is found far more frequently in Scripture than either el or eloah for the true God. The plural ending is usually described as a plural of majesty and not intended as a true plural when used of God. This is seen in the fact that the noun elohim is consistently used with singular verb forms and with adjectives and pronouns in the singular. — Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament, Volume 1 (edited by R. Laird Harris, Gleason L. Archer Jr., and Bruce K. Waltke, Chicago: Moody Press, 1980, page 44):
Hi Bob:
Thanks for your input.
The scriptures that you have quoted are often used to try to establish a scriptural foundation for the trinity doctrine. A thorough study of these verses however, only consolidates the fact that trinitarians really have no solid scriptural foundation for their false 3 gods in one, god man Trinity doctrine.
Remember… The scriptures that you are quoting have been handed down to the christian church for hundreds of years by the traditions of the Christian forefathers, The roman catholic church. The same church that for more than 1600 years tortured and killed more than 50,000,000 people that did not agree with their false pagan 3 gods in 1 doctrine during the dark ages, not to mention the spanish inquisition.
These same christian forefathers whose doctrine you uphold killed people for even having a copy of the scriptures. They have kept hidden for centuries ancient sacred scripts (some even supposedly written by the very disciples of Yahu’shua Himself) that have been rediscovered in recent history that actually repudiate many of the foundational doctrines of todays Christian church.
I would like to point out some facts about the three verses that you have quoted that you may not have realized (although in reality, all I can do is elaborate on what Glenda has already posted).
1. -* Gen.1:26a And God said,Let us make man in our image, after our likeness KJV

If you believe that the name elohiym is the name of God Then you are headed into idotatry.
Just because something is called (אלהים ‘elohiym) isn’t a signal for you to worship it! When the scriptures refer to something as (אלהים ‘elohiym) that Does Not make it equal with YHVH or part of some trinity!
The word (אלהים ‘elohiym) is not only used in reference to YHVH (or God)…
(אלהים ‘elohiym) is also used in the scriptures with reference to judges.
Exd 21:6
Then his master shall bring him unto the judges (אלהים ‘elohiym);
Exd 22:8 If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges (אלהים ‘elohiym),
Are They Equal with God Or Part of Your Trinity??
Is a goddess part of your (אלהים ‘elohiym) trinity??
1Ki 11:5
For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess (אלהים ‘elohiym)
1Ki 11:33
Because that they have forsaken me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess (אלהים ‘elohiym) of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god (אלהים ‘elohiym) of the Moabites, and Milcom the god (אלהים ‘elohiym) of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do [that which is] right in mine eyes, and [to keep] my statutes and my judgments, as [did] David his father.
Do you really worship anything just because it is named (אלהים ‘elohiym)???
Do you also worship angels???
Psa 8:5
For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels (אלהים ‘elohiym), and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
יהוה YHVH is His name!
Not אלהים ‘elohiym
Conclusion; ‘elohiym = One God. Three distinct manifestations thereof… = FALSE
2. -* John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.
Absolutely.
Genesis 1
The Creation
1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.
3Then God said,
The very first thing that the bible tells us that God did (besides moving over the surface of the waters) was to speak.
“God Said”…
God spoke… He spoke a word… The word emanated from Him and was with Him… The whole of creation listened and performed His will according to His word. The Word was God… It was His will spoken aloud… and everything Had To conform to it.
> “God Said”… Let there be light: and there was light.
- But the light was Not equal to God nor part of some trinity.
> And “God Said”… Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which [were] under the firmament from the waters which [were] above the firmament: and it was so.
- But the firmament was Not equal to God nor part of some trinity.
> And “God Said”… Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry [land] appear: and it was so
- But the waters was Not equal to God nor part of some trinity.
> And “God Said”… Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, [and] the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed [is] in itself, upon the earth: and it was so
- But the grass, the herb yielding seed, [and] the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind was Not equal to God nor part of some trinity.
> And “God Said”… Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so
- But the lights in the firmament was Not equal to God nor part of some trinity.
It was His Word.
And His Word became established.
But it was Not equal to God nor part of some trinity.
3. -* 1John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:and these three are one.
The verse you have quoted above (1John 5:7) is an addition to the original transcripts of 1 John and is found only in late manuscripts. Virtually ALL modern scholars AGREE that 1 John 5:6,7 were tampered with and they refuse to include the falsified text.
However the KJV is a notable exception.
I have come to view the trinity as a timeline. The Father was God’s spirt before Christ, the Son was God’s spirit in the form of a man ( Jesus ), the Holy Ghost was God’s spirit post-human death.
There was a time when I was a baby, there was a time when I was a teenager, there is a time (now) when I am a grown man. I was the same person, just in three different time frames. It doesn’t mean I am composed of three different individuals.
One thing I have noticed, Jesus never demanded a worship service for himself. He did seem to demand that his followers wash each others feet, that is, serve and help each other.
There are verses where Jesus seems to indicate that he is God himself and other verses where he speaks of God as a seperate entity. There have been different schools of thought regarding the nature of Jesus, some early christians believed he wasn’t a man at all, just God with the form of a man. Others thought he never existed at all but was an example of what a perfect man would be.
We all have to sort this out for self’s, and it is a lot to think about.
Interesting thoughts Stan, but scripture assures us that God is unchanging (Mal 3:6) and eternal (Ps 106:48) and not affected by ‘time’ (which God used to put a limit on man Gen 6:3 and will negate such limit in future Rev 10:6), so rather than ‘being born of a woman and slowly growing up and maturing’ as Jesus did (Lk 2:52 … notice that Jesus grew in favour with God, so Jesus cannot be God), God is the ‘Self-existant One’ (YHWH Ex 3:14) and ‘the Ancient of days’ (Dan 7, where the son of man approaches near to the Ancient of days, so the son of man and the Ancient of days are different beings).
God is not a man, or a son of man (Num 23:19, 1 Sam 15:29, Job 9:32), while Jesus assures us that Jesus is a man (Jn 8:40) and also a son of man (Mt 16:13).
Jesus assured us that God is a Spirit (Jn 4:24) and Jesus assured us that Jesus is not a spirit (Lk 24:39)
(God was recognised as being a Spirit in OT: NUM 16:22 And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?
God of spirits was requested to place ‘a man’ over God’s people
NUM 27:16 Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,
and God agreed: DEUT 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
Jesus confirmed this referred to himself: JN 5:46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. )
Jesus confirmed God’s Law that we can be forgiven for speaking wrongly against Jesus, but we will not be forgiven for speaking wrongly against God (Mt 12:32-32, Lk 12:10), EX 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
so obvioulsy Jesus and God are not the same
The Spirit existed at the same time as Jesus, since the Spirit descended onto Jesus, rather than the Spirit transforming into Jesus.
All scripture assures us that God has no visible form (Deut 4:12, 15) and has never been seen with human eyes (Jn 1:18, 1 Jn 4:12, Jn 5:37), yet Jesus was seen with human eyes (Jn 6:36). We can see God reflected in people by their ‘good’ ie ‘Godly’ (Mt 19:17, Mk 10:18, Lk 18:19) deeds/actions (Mt 5:16, Mt 9:8 ) and the Godly/spiritual words coming from their mouths (Mt 10:20)
Jesus had a God and this is the True God that Jesus proclaimed verbally:
JN 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and [to] my God, and your God.
JN 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].
JN 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Instead of figuring it out for ourselves, we simply need to believe flesh Jesus, since if we look at the deeds of Jesus and heed the words from his mouth, we can see and hear God, since Jesus did God’s works and spoke God’s Words. Jesus confirmed that it was God within him Who caused the actions and words proceeding from flesh Jesus: JN 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. JN 12:50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. JN 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life. JN 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure [unto him].
We can believe the name of Jesus ie YHWH saves
JN 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:
JN 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
JN 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
1JN 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
JN 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
The very earliest Church believed that Jesus was a man and that is what they preached. ACTS 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
The message changed after that, as Jesus warned it would in the tares parable … while men slept something different was sown
You are right that Jesus focused on gracious deeds and did not seek or demand worship for himself
You are right that it’s a lot to think about and truth needs to be sought individually. Very few find the narrow way that leads to life (truth/buried treasure/pearl of great price), because it costs everything and is hard rather than easy, so is not popular. You will not find truth in worldly religious institutions (churches) who serve money and governments (including government registrations of marriages etc).
Happy hunting Stan
Something to take into consideration is the creation account.
God made man in God’s image. Man was created in fertile mature form like God.
Man was told to multiply because God had created man capable of this, having both male and female aspects/sides/ribs (H6763 translated as ‘rib’ but is literally a ’side’ eg side of ark etc). GEN 1:27 So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
(there is no Strongs number for ‘them’ in any of the ‘them’ verses about creation of man, because can’t associate Strongs number to something not there. In Gen 1:29, the ‘you’ that God says to male-female is inserted as a singular entity H853)
Later God extracted the woman from the man and closed that side of man, which is why male and female revert to one flesh in marriage. Anyway, the point is that God created a mature being in His image. Later, the man messed up and blamed his wife and also God for giving Him a woman. GEN 3:12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest [to be] with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
Then man then produced a being in his own image and that being was not mature. GEN 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat [a son] in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
Mankind is imperfect and must grow to maturity and become stable, while God is perfect and does not change or go through stages.
Dear Glenda,
After glancing thru your comments, I would say that you are near the truth.
Jesus is certainly a man, a sinless man but nevertheless a man made from clay.
After the river Jordan incident, the Spirit of the Father desended upon Jesus and remained in him, and Jesus became Jesus Christ, the annointed one.
Now 2 person are in the body of Jesus, namely Jesus the man and the Father God.
Before the River Jordan incident (RJ), Jesus could perform no miracles because he is just a man. But after the RJ, it was the Father, in Jesus, who performed all the miracles. That is why Jesus said “he could do nothing”. What he saw the Father do, that he does also. Jesus told the truth. All the miracles and the Truth spoken are from the Father.
The Father also spoke thru Jesus and miracles happen just like in the book of Genesis . The words of Jesus are either from the Father or inspired by the Father.
God cannot die. Even after the whipping and being nailed onto the cross, Jesus did not die. Only after Father left him, Jesus cried out and died.
Many things about God, the church has got it wrong. The trinity of God is true but certainly not as explained in the church.
