We certainly do need to be pulled up when we err, but it's important for close spiritual brethren to pull us up I think. This requires close contact and honesty between united disciples who share love and trust. God has blessed me with a spiritual sister who I can share daily realities with. When she sees me err, she lovingly pulls me up and i'm so grateful.
JAS 5:16 Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

The above refers to errancy on a personal level which can be pulled up personally and quickly by close loving brethren who are aware of daily life events.

Sometimes we may become aware of others going astray who we cannot personally address it (eg lack of personal contact etc), so we can pray:
1JN 5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin [which is] not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
1JN 5:17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

The lessons Jesus taught, all seem relevent to those who desire truth and are prospective or current spiritual brethren, rather than any deliberately blind general public or alternative 'religion' to what Jesus lived, and who have no desire to follow Jesus. I don't know if we are meant to share truth of gospel (or any of our failures) with those who choose to reject God's Words through Jesus and scripture. Joh 17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

I appreciate that scripture publicly shares humiliating instances of errancy of great people eg King David, Peter etc, yet I don't consider it would be beneficial to confess our faults to a society that thrives on destructive gossip and finger-pointing. Jesus didn't share spiritual food and healing with the poor general public until after he healed and/or fed them physically. Regarding ticking people off, Jesus focused on confronting religious traditionalists who thought they were saved and refused to comprehend they were damned sinners who God would exclude from the Kingdom.

I think we must address fallacy when it gets in our face and share truth when someone desires it and support brethren on path we are on and focus on daily learning to live as God intended as per example of Jesus. I may be wrong in this, but I'm all for errant religion destroying itself with its infighting and filling up on more mystic mumbo-jumbo ... they are falling apart without any help from us and that's fine with me. Get out of her (the spiritual whore who embraces whatever she fancies and rides world political power) my people.

Those who follow Jesus alone share a distinct unity. Minor controversy does not divide us and is not to be feared. We are to conform to Jesus rather than to each other and heed him as God commanded.
Joh 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. ...
Joh 17:13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
Joh 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Joh 17:15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
Joh 17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Joh 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Joh 17:18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
Joh 17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
Joh 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
Joh 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
Joh 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
Joh 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

Regarding strangers and outsiders, not everyone appreciates truth. There is a specific target audience to share truth with. If the truth is not appreciated, effort is not to be persisted in and peace is to be retracted

Luk 10:5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
Luk 10:6 And if the ***SON OF PEACE*** be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.

Mat 10:11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is ***WORTHY***; and there abide till ye go thence.
Mat 10:12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.
Mat 10:13 And if the house be ***WORTHY***, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
Mat 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

This confirms proverbs
PROV 23:9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
PROV 14:7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not [in him] the lips of knowledge.
PROV 10:8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
PROV 1:7 The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of knowledge: [but] fools despise wisdom and instruction.
PROV 14:16 A wise [man] feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
PROV 29:9 [If] a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, [there is] no rest.

Those intent on embracing errancy will close their ears to truth.
PROV 23:9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

MT 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and [their] ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and should understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
